3rd Sunday after Pentecost

June 20th, 2020

This video connects you with a pre-recorded Eucharist from St Paul’s Cathedral in Sale for the Third Sunday after Pentecost, for which a small congregation was present.

As some churches reopen for restricted gathered worship, for many households ongoing access to online resources such as this continues to be important, and we are pleased to be able to offer them in a time of transition.

Dean Susanna Pain presides at this service, with The Revd Nikolai Blaskow (Associate Priest at St Paul’s Cathedral) preaching. Cathedral organist Anthony Hahn accompanies the hymns and the setting for the Eucharist, and Jenny Batten helps to lead the singing.

Following the service, we recorded a ‘fireside chat’ with Nikolai (who is also Associate Chaplain at Gippsland Grammar and an honorary Police Chaplain, and you can view that conversation HERE.

In that interview, Nikolai shares generously of his journey to faith and ministry, his childhood and his coming to Australia. His conversation with Bishop Richard ranges from Nikolai’s doctoral research into Nietzsche and other philosophers, the richness of Hebrew biblical narrative, Refugee Week and Reconciliation, and the lively spirituality of young people.

Our thanks as always to the Cathedral Parish for their hospitality, and to the Registrar for filming and editing these services.

You may like to practice the tradition of ‘spiritual communion’ as you watch and listen to this Eucharist, and especially at the point of distribution of the Sacrament in this video. The following prayer may be helpful: O Lord Jesus Christ, through your tender mercy grant that as the hem of your garment, touched in faith, healed the woman who could not touch your body, so the soul of this your servant may be healed by like faith in you, whom I cannot now sacramentally receive. In union with the faithful at every altar-table in your Church I desire to be united with you, and pray that you will come spiritually into my heart. Let nothing ever separate me from your love, for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

This audio file is available for those who would prefer to listen to the service.

Please feel free to share this resource with anyone you feel may benefit from it. Grace and peace, +Richard
