Special Session of Synod to be held on Saturday 16 December 2017

October 9th, 2017

A special session of the Thirty-Eighth Synod will be held in St Paul’s Cathedral, Sale on Saturday 16 December 2017 commencing at 9.30am. The Synod session will be followed by lunch and a Farewell Eucharist and the laying up of the pastoral staff by Bishop Kay. The Eucharist will commence at 1pm.

The Synod is being summoned to deal with child protection legislation arising from the General Synod session held in September of this year.

These matters need to be dealt with promptly especially in the light of the release of the Royal Commission report on 15 December 2017 and Bishop Kay’s departure for Perth at the end of the year. As Synod is unable to deal with legislation in the absence of a Bishop, it is possible that consideration of these matters could be delayed until May 2019 if they are not dealt before Bishop Kay leaves.
